In the rapidly advancing digital landscape of India, internet connectivity has become a fundamental necessity, driving economic growth, education, and social development. To bridge the digital divide and ensure universal internet access for all citizens, the Government of India launched the groundbreaking PM-WANI (Prime Minister's Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) WiFi Scheme. At the heart of this transformative initiative are the Public Data Offices (PDOs), entities that provide internet services to end-users through public Wi-Fi networks. Collaborating closely with PDOs, the Public Data Office Partners (PDOPs) play a pivotal role in enabling seamless connectivity and contributing to the nation's vision of a digitally empowered India.
The income of a PDOP in the PM-WANI WiFi Scheme is earned through revenue-sharing with the PDOs they collaborate with. PDOPs provide critical network infrastructure, technical support, and services to PDOs, and, in return, they receive a portion of the income generated from data plan subscriptions by end-users. The revenue-sharing model may vary depending on the agreements and terms set between the PDOP and the PDO.
